What is the significance of mentioning multiple Janaat and “tajree min tahtihal anhaar” in the Quran ?

No, it’s one total, one sum total, together. Jannat, together with Taj-e-Min-Taat-e-Lan-Ha, it makes one whole. There are two separate things. No Janna can survive without water flowing from underneath. And Jannat, what does it actually… why not Janna? Because, as in Surah Rahman, it is mentioned that there will not be just one Janna. What will happen in fact is this, that there will be Jannat after Jannat for the God-fearing people who are rewarded by Allah after death.

To begin with, they will get one type of Janna, and when they are used to it, then a better Janna and a higher Janna will be revealed to them and so on and so forth. So, in plural, it is indicated that there won’t be one stationary Janna where everything would go stale. Neither those things which the Janna would contain will ever go stale, nor will ever that Janna become stale in itself. Another Janna will take over. The same phenomena will occur vis-à-vis the dwellers of hell, because the Holy Quran tells us that when the skin, one skin will be burnt, a new skin will be given, so that one does not get accustomed to a thing.

So, if Allah treats the dwellers of hell in such minute detail that they do not get accustomed, how could he ignore Ahle Janna and make them bored with one type of Janna? So, there will be variety, an ever-changing variety. That is perhaps one of the things which is mentioned, one of the things which are mentioned with the word Jannat having been used in plural. But there are other meanings as well.
