When we pray, why do we do like this? To ask for blessings? Do we have to ask for blessings or not? Yes. When you spread your hands and put something in front of someone, let it be an empty hand, it creates a painful scene. Like a beggar comes and puts an empty bag in front of him or he extends his hand and says, look, there is nothing, put something in it.
So, in the presence of Allah, to create a sense of humility, to create a scene of pain, that we have come to you with an empty hand, look, there is nothing, put something in it. That is why we raise our hands. But I don’t understand the hands that shake. Why do we pray and do like this? Did you understand? Or you didn’t understand? Thank you. He said, why do we raise hands when we say, you know, beg from Allah, do some prayer.
So, I said, this is a commonly witnessed phenomenon that when a beggar comes to you, he extends his empty hand to excite your pity and to let you understand that he has nothing in his hands, he is just empty. Whatever you give him, he will get, otherwise he has nothing. So, you do the same thing to God by extending your empty hands to him and pictorially to express your emptiness and nothingness.
So, it excites your own internal sentiments and also you hope that you will invoke God’s pity on you because of this. I said, I understand that much. But I do not understand why people rub their faces with their empty hands. That’s just meaningless, you know. You should say Dua and finish it, you know. But this system, I don’t know why it has started this. I have witnessed in some pictures, always when they finish Dua, they do it like this.
