Currently, one sees many advertisements in newspapers or magazines of sorts advertising services of hypnotherapists who claim that they can, in effect, improve people’s characters by helping them to rid them of habits that they themselves have no control over. What in your opinion… How do they claim they can help? Well, they say that they can improve people’s, I suppose, motivation. There is no objection against it? Through the use of hypnotism in control. For instance, smoking or overeating or… You see, everything is possible by strong suggestion.
And also it is possible that without the use of word media, ideas can be conveyed and transferred to other people. So, all this is possible. And it is possible on the authority of the Holy Qur’an that sometimes people can be so influenced by the power of mind that they begin to see things which are not there. So, the Holy Qur’an tells us that when the magician who confronted Hazrat Moses made the ropes appear to be snakes, they did not actually change them into snakes. Saharu, Ayun and Naseh, they had only put their spell on the sights of the people.
So, this is sheer and pure hypnotism. So, when the Holy Qur’an recognizes hypnotism in so many clear words, then how could we object against it and its practices? So, it is possible. It is logical. And now it has also become scientifically accepted. Of course. Could I just continue on from that? In this sort of field of self-improvement in religion, much emphasis is given on the use of willpower to control bad habits, for instance. What I am wondering is what is it in, what part of the human psyche does hypnotism act upon?
And does it act at a deeper level or a lesser level? You see, nobody knows the center of psychic phenomenon. In fact, as far as I believe, I think it relates to the soul. And this would again start a new, I mean a controversy which has been raging in the world of scientists for many years regarding the separate entity of mind and brain. So, if it is a phenomenon which is related to brain, then you have to find a center. And as such, scientists have not discovered any center which can be described as the psychic center.
But many scientists of high respectability and established fame also openly claim and have written books in support of their claim that there has to be no psychic center because mind is different from brain. And the entire brain is the seat of mind.
So, in other words, they believe in soul. And they believe in a soul which is the master of mind. And mind is not the master of soul. So, this is exactly the religious understanding. So, there does not have to be a center for that. Hypnotism is hypnotism. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. There is no harm or harm in it.
