Questioner: My question is, why did Allah make Shaitaan when he knew he was going to make trouble?
Huzoor (rh): You see, Allah makes good things and Shaitaan used to be good before. But lack of goodness is evil. Allah never creates evil. Allah only creates goodness. You see, Allah has created light. What is darkness? Lack of light. Darkness is nothing substantial which is created.
Only when something interferes with the light rays and obstructs them, then the lack of light is what you consider as darkness. So that is why in the Holy Quran and in other scriptures, evil and goodness are compared to light and darkness. That leaves a very potent message with us, that God has only created goodness.
When you do not acquire goodness, when you lack in the light of goodness, that is evil, that is vice. So the moment Satan defied God, he obstructed himself from the light of God and a shadow of darkness was created within him. That is the evil of Satan.
