Questioner: Why did God create the pig if he knew it’s bad for you?
Huzoor (rh): Who said pig is bad in itself? Bad for you, all right, but you are also bad for other things. You kill flies, don’t you? You kill germs. You kill snakes when they come your way. Why did God create you when you were bad for other things? So this is not a valid question at all. If something is good for nothing, then it should not be created. But everything is good for something at least. It serves a purpose. So it has a right to exist, you understand? That is why now the people who speak of ecosystem and the balances in nature, they have become extremely inimical to give life, free license to man to kill anything on earth. They say everything has a purpose. If you disturb the balance of life by killing freely at your will, anything which you don’t like or like too much, then the balance will be destroyed and life on earth will become ultimately impossible for man itself. So remember this, that we are not forbidden to eat pork because swine or the pigs are good for nothing. They are good for some things. They serve a purpose in life, in the whole ecosystem of the universe. But not good for us. Poison is not good for you. Why didn’t you ask why is poison created? Most things you can’t eat. You can eat, you have very little choice of all the things which can be eaten because other animals do eat them. You can’t eat filth, but bacteria do. They flourish on filth. So although it is bad for you, it is good for some other things. Do you understand the point?
