Questioner: I have another question forHuzoor. There has been a recent development in the Christian Church, specifically the Church of England, and that has been the recent ordination of a woman priest. What does Islam say as far as such a development is concerned?
Huzoor (rh): You see, we do not have in Islam institutionalized priesthood, ordained priesthood as it’s called in Christian terms. So it’s irrelevant to us what they do, but what is relevant to us is that they are making their beliefs themselves now. It’s not a question of interpretation of the Bible. They’re making their own rules, own regulations, own code of life.
So Christianity is in the hand of men now, human beings, persons, male and female. But it’s no longer the old New Testament or Old Testament they refer to. The teaching, that teaching is buried in the past, practically. Of course there are some living Christians, very few. The society which you see as Christian society is not Christian, because there are no Christian values. It is not Christian. It is fortunate and unfortunate. Fortunate for Christianity that this society is not Christian. Unfortunate for the society that it is not Christian.
