Why did Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad wait until 1944 before claiming to be Musleh Maud, the promised son prophecied by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad?

Questioner: Assalam-o-Alaikum.

Huzoor (rh): Wa-Alaikum Assalam.

Questioner: Hazrat Masih Maud A.S. made prophecy about the Promised Son, Hazrat Musleh Maud A.S. And no doubt that it was fulfilled. And Hazrat Masih Maud A.S. has mentioned in some of his books as well that this was the son about whom the prophecy was made. But Hazrat Musleh Maud A.S. did not declare to my knowledge until 1944. And in January 1944, he said that now I declare that I am that Musleh Maud. And the first Jalsa was celebrated on 29th of January in 1944.

Huzoor (rh): Also he gave the reasons for that delay, didn’t he?

Questioner: That God revealed to him.

Huzoor (rh): He waited until God himself had revealed to him that he was the Promised Son. That is what he said.

Questioner: Yes, my question is that since Hazrat Musleh Maud A.S. had mentioned, he kept quiet for a long time.

Huzoor (rh): But Hazrat Messiah Maud A.S. did not mention categorically pointing to him. Nowhere did he do that. He left things open. But there were very strong pointers, we can say. But there was no categorical statement or in the beginning, everybody should have said he is Musleh Maud, Musleh Maud, like that. And how could Maulvi Muhammad Ali Sahib take that position against him and others? And yet they were not told once by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih I or anybody else that what are you doing to Musleh Maud? So this is, I mean you must have received a wrong impression from some writings of Hazrat Messiah Maud A.S. As far as I know, as far as the companions of the Hazrat Messiah Maud A.S. knew, Hazrat Messiah Maud A.S. had not declared categorically that this son of mine Mirza Mahmood Ahmad is Musleh Maud.
