Questioner: Well, I just wonder, the scientists say that there are more in the universe, there are several universes, is it possible that it exists on earth, if you understand what I mean? Yes, with a society like that.
Huzoor (rh): See, the Holy Qur’an has already mentioned this, that like we have created seven heavens, so also we have created earths, mithlahunna, like them. Which means that the concept of one single earth is wrong and the Holy Qur’an asserts positively that there are other earths.
Now, what is an earth in relation to a heaven? If you understand that, then this question can be more easily understood. Earth, as we know, is a place where life can exist. And heaven is something which supports life. All the stars and the energy which flows from heaven towards the earth become a system, a complex system for supporting life on earth. So, there is a possibility, genuine scientific possibility, that in other areas of the universe or in other universes, there could be other earths. With this definition which I have just made.
So, according to the Holy Qur’an, not only there is likelihood of life existing elsewhere, but the Holy Qur’an positively tells us that life does exist elsewhere. And the Holy Qur’an also goes one step forward by asserting that whenever God would so desire, he would bring the life from other places in the heaven and the life here on earth together. And bring them together and in communion with each other. Now, the word togetherness can be explained either in the form of physical togetherness or in the form of communication. That is also a sort of togetherness.
Only time would decide whether the Holy Qur’an meant physical union of the two types of lives, or they are coming into communication and then getting one and single through communication. And that verse positively proves that there are other earths in the heaven. So, it says,
وَمِنۡ اٰیٰتِہٖ خَلۡقُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ وَمَا بَثَّ فِیۡہِمَا مِنۡ دَآبَّۃٍ ؕ وَہُوَ عَلٰی جَمۡعِہِمۡ اِذَا یَشَآءُ قَدِیۡرٌ
And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and of whatever living creatures He has spread forth in both. And He has the power to gather them together when He pleases. (42:29)
that it is from among the signs of God that He has created heaven, earth and heavens. And has created life in both of them. Dabba is the type of life which is found here on earth. So, if earth means a place which supports life with the help of heavens, then there must be other earths in other heavens.
And the Holy Qur’an says,
وَہُوَ عَلٰی جَمۡعِہِمۡ اِذَا یَشَآءُ قَدِیۡرٌ
God is fully capable, has the power to bring the two lives together whenever he so decides. So, the Holy Qur’an is very clear and specific on this issue.
Questioner: But, is it possible, does the life on the other side, is it the same life as is here?
Huzoor (rh): No, we don’t know.
Questioner: We don’t know, ok.
Huzoor (rh): But we know positively that their togetherness must mean either physical contact or contact through communication. So, if it is contact through communication, then that life on the other planets has to be intelligent life. Otherwise, they can’t come into contact with us. And if they come into contact with us physically, then either we should be capable of reaching them or they should be capable of reaching us. So, when this happens, only then we will know what sort of people they are. They may be differently shaped. They may be made of different material. They may require different type of life support altogether. Because if they are made of silicon chips, then their shape will have to be very different. See.
Questioner: Well, the point was, they might even have a Khalifa there too.
Huzoor (rh): Well, if the prophets are alive, then there won’t be any Khalifa.
Questioner: Ok.
Huzoor (rh): But of course, if life which is referred to in the Holy Qur’an means intelligent, intellectual beings as we understand, then there is bound to be some direction, some guidance from heaven. In what form we don’t know. But messengers they would certainly be.
